Baldhead caps
Baldhead caps are used to hide the hair to make completely bald skin heads or in cases where you need to reduce the actors actual hair without shaving. You can apply crepe hair to a baldhead cap for characters like monks or add a crest of multi-coloured hair like a mohican.
We sell two types of baldhead cap.
Grimas professional baldhead caps are made from translucent, flexible plastic designed for once only use. They can be used to achieve highly realistic effects which can withstand close up work.
We also sell a latex cap (not Grimas) which can be used where appearance is not so critical. It's not so stretchy and it's difficult to hide the edges completely.
- Start by brushing the hair flat. If the hair is long, use a wig cap to keep it up out of the way.
- Clean the forehead, back of the neck and around the ears with cleansing lotion. This is important to get the cap to stick properly.
- Stretch the baldhead cap over the head, covering the ears.
- Use a felt tip pen to mark where to cut the cap around the ears.
- Remove the cap and cut it where marked using scissors.
- Refit the cap and fold back the front a few centimetres to expose the forehead.
- Use mastix extra to glue the front of the cap.
- Fold up the back of the cap to expose the neck and glue here too.
- Finally, glue the sides down in front of the ears.
- Remove using mastix remover on a cotton bud to gently ease the baldhead cap away from the skin.
- Use cotton wool dampened with mastix remover to get the rest of the mastix off.
- Use skin care cream to re-moisturise.
